Liepaja Youth centre is one of the municipal non-profit organizations. The centre has been established thanks to the support of Nynäshamn (Sweden) in 1996.
At the beginning the main goals were to increase health status among the young people through information about health and health-related issues. Now Liepaja Youth centre is one of the few organizations in Latvia which has been implementing the politics of “friendly health services for youth”.
Starting to address health issues, Liepaja Youth centre got involved in various spheres related to young people – increasing the number of volunteers between youngsters providing free – time activities for youth, discovering and supporting young leaders etc.
At the moment Liepaja Youth centre is taking responsibilities to realize Liepaja Youth local policy from 2006 till 2010. This is the first municipal-level youth planning document in Latvia, which has been developed by young people. The Youth Affairs committee began to work out Youth local policy in 2002.
